Where To Stay
An Accommodation Guide for Auckland and Waiheke Island.
We’re so glad you’re considering making the trip to Waiheke Island for our wedding. To help you plan, we’ve put together an overview of some recommended areas to stay — both on Waiheke and in Auckland.
Each location offers different benefits depending on your travel plans, how long you’re staying, and what kind of experience you’re after.
Auckland CBD

Pros:
✅ Easier to get to from Auckland Airport
✅ Plenty of hotels and short-stay options
✅ Easy access to ferry terminals to Waiheke
Cons:
❌ Not on Waiheke Island — could be stressful getting to the island on the day of the wedding
❌ Can be busy and more expensive during peak times
❌ Less of a “beach getaway” vibe
Oneroa, Waiheke Island

Pros:
✅ Walking distance to shops, cafés, restaurants, and the ferry
✅ Convenient for guests without a car
✅ Good mix of accommodation types (hotels, apartments, holiday homes)
✅ Central location makes it easy to access other parts of the island
Cons:
❌ Accommodation can book out early, especially on weekends
❌ Slightly busier and more touristy than other parts of Waiheke
Palm Beach, Waiheke Island

Pros:
✅ Quiet and peaceful with a sheltered beach
✅ Often more affordable than Oneroa
✅ Good for families or guests wanting a slower pace
Cons:
❌ Limited dining and shopping options nearby
❌ You’ll frequently need to catch a bus or a taxi to get to busier parts of the island
Onetangi, Waiheke Island

Pros:
✅ One of the best beaches on the island
✅ Close to some of Waiheke’s best wineries and restaurants
✅ More accommodation options available that are better value
Cons:
❌ If you stay close to Charlie Farleys (the pub) it can get noisy at night.
❌ Some of the best accommodation is located up steep hills (make sure to check before booking)
❌ Far away from the ferry terminal
