Top Vineyards On Waiheke Island

Waiheke is home to some of New Zealand’s most acclaimed vineyards, each offering a unique experience – from intimate tastings to long, lazy vineyard lunches.

To help you make the most of your visit, we’ve put together a guide to some of the best vineyards on the island – places we’ve personally visited and absolutely loved. Whether you’re into bold reds, crisp whites, or just want a great spot to enjoy the views, there’s something here for everyone.

Tantalus Estate

📍 Onetangi

If you’re looking for a vineyard that feels luxurious but not pretentious, Tantalus is your spot. The estate itself is stunning – think native bushland, sleek architecture, and rows of vines framed by rolling hills.

Their restaurant is top-tier (book in advance), and the craft beer brewed onsite is a bonus if you’re travelling with non-wine drinkers. Don’t miss the underground Alibi Brewer’s Lounge – it’s a moody little hideaway that we absolutely loved.

The Shed at Te Motu

📍 Onetangi

This one’s a hidden gem. The Shed is rustic, intimate, and the kind of place where the wine tells a story. The Te Motu reds are exceptional – deep, complex, and exactly what you’d expect from one of Waiheke’s oldest vineyards.

The food is equally impressive, focusing on locally sourced ingredients. It’s a long-lunch kind of place where time slows down.

Casita Miro

📍 Onetangi

Walking into Casita Miro feels like stumbling across a Gaudí-inspired Spanish villa perched on a hilltop. It’s colourful, artistic, and full of heart.

Their tapas-style dining is perfect for sharing, and the views? Just wow. Make sure to try their Syrah or their Moscatel if you’re in the mood for something sweet.

Bonus: the mosaic garden is a gorgeous spot for photos.

Poderi Crisci

📍 Awaawaroa Bay

Italian charm meets Kiwi countryside. Poderi Crisci is tucked away on the quieter side of the island, and it feels like a little slice of Tuscany.

Everything about this place is romantic – from the cypress-lined driveway to the long-table lunches that stretch into the afternoon. Their Sunday long Italian lunch is a local favourite and worth the trip!

Man O’ War

📍 Eastern End of Waiheke

Man O’ War is the island’s wild child. It’s the only beachfront cellar door on Waiheke, and the journey to get there is half the fun – a scenic drive across the island’s rugged east coast.

This is the spot to relax with a glass of rosé while your toes are in the sand. The vibe is super chill, with picnic tables, live music on weekends and a coastal breeze that makes everything taste better.

Cable Bay Vineyards

📍 Oneroa

Just a short walk from the ferry terminal, Cable Bay is a fantastic place to kick off or wrap up your Waiheke wine adventures. The cellar door and restaurant have unbeatable views of Auckland across the water, especially at sunset. They also have a cool lawn bar with beanbags, cocktails, and casual bites if you’re in a relaxed mood. Try their Pinot Gris or the sparkling rosé for something fresh and celebratory.
